What Is Neuropathy?
Neuropathy pain comes from a variety of causes, including but not limited to, surgeries, diabetes, lack of exercise, or a poor diet. There are many different types of neuropathy such as peripheral, autonomic, proximal and focal neuropathies.
Peripheral Neuropathies usually start in the feet and progress to the calf, hands, and/or feet.
Autonomic Neuropathies can affect the heart and blood vessels, digestive system, urinary system, sex organs, sweat glands, eyes, and lungs.
Proximal Neuropathies are less common and can affect the thighs, hips, buttocks, and upper portion of the legs.
Focal Neuropathies usually affect a specific area such as the facial muscles, ears, pelvic area and lower back.
Neuropathic pain usually does not respond well to standard pain treatment and in most cases, the pain may get worse. At Strong Chiropractic, we take a multidisciplinary approach to neuropathic pain and combine treatments that provide relief to many of the symptoms of neuropathy and help prevent further nerve damage.
What Are My Treatment Options?
Much of the standard pain treatments offered only target the neuropathy pain. The prescriptions generally used, gabapentin, lyrica, and so forth, help to mask the pain to offer some sort of relief for neuropathy sufferers so that they may continue on with their daily lives.
